Changed Ideas
I have decided to change my theme of shoes for Assignment 2 to DVDs. They will be far more easily accessable and better for making clever backgrounds. Some DVDs i have chosen are Star Wars, Watchmen, Scarface and Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Small Product Assignment 2
Im am going to continue the skateboarding theme for my second small product assignment. Supra skate shoes, as seen below, have a distinct style of photography when advertising their shoes. They regularly have reflective surfaces for dramatic effect and soft lighting form a high and slightly skewed angle. I hope to use a similar technique for my images.

Small Product Assignment 1
My original idea for this assignment was to do some kind of advertisement that could be found in your average skateboard magazine. The problem with this idea was that all the ads in skate magazines i researched were for shoes. Usually this would be fine but none of them had studio images due to the fact that seeing someone doing an amazing trick down a huge stair set or picturesque location is far more enticing than seeing someone wearing a shoe in a studio setting.
Then i remembered a line of Supra shoes that came out and all the advertising was very extravagant to reflect the style of the shoes. Here are some images from http://www.suprafootwear.com/

The above image will be a basis for my own background image. For the actual product i will try to emulate the style of the red shoes in the second picture from the top.
For the background shot, my lighting set up will be fairly simple as seen in this diagram, with two background lights achieving a harshly shadowed image. For my model i will most likely be using Jordan or Dave.
The Supra advertisements are so effective in selling the products because the luxurious situations and 'badass' rocker style of the models mixed with the post production dream-like effects portray a glamorous lifestyle. A look that can only be achieved by buying and wearing the shoes.
